Notes

Fernando Daxta is one of the newer faces of “world electronic” music, and no, that doesn’t mean tacky “ethnic” vocal samples or sitar solos. In Fernando’s sense, “world” means taking his experience growing up in Spain, living in South America, and now based in Belgium, to create a sophisticated, cosmopolitan sound.

Following his string of releases on his own label Sirius Pandi (which received support from Josh Wink, Troy Pierce and Alexi Delano among others), Señr Daxta now teams up with his fellow Brussells residents from the Toys For Boys crew for the Entre Gachos y Gandayas EP.

Fernando counts new beat, acid, and breakbeat among his influences, and while this EP is definitely classified as tech-house, he finds space between the 4/4 beats to weave in other influences, true to the Toys For Boys manifesto. The title track features a stomping, controlling bass thump as a storm of disembodied voices surface in the high end for a truly mesmerizing effect. “Javi Go” is equally hypnotic, and “Puerto Nao” shows some discreet breakbeat inspiration, while “Ophy’s Fairies” is more subtle, venturing into deeper waters as a voice asks, “Do you believe?” And with this rising, worldly talented producer, hearing is believing.
