  • This album is f'ing amazing.I've been on Discogs since 2002 and have never written a review on here, but I think this album warrants it. I've also never even considered listening to Rihanna's past CD's (or anything considered "mainstream pop/r&b etc etc" for that matter) and this album is, dare I say it, a modern masterpiece. Every song is great, every sound perfect and incredibly well produced to set the stage for, and which is eventually taken over by, Rihanna's totally incredible voice and "ownership" of the material. The shifts in sounds and "genres" (it's almost like the producers took certain genres, ripped them apart and re-created and re-invented them) isn't a gimmick and they all feel natural. The songs flow together and work wonderfully against each other. I think this record might take a couple of listens and putting aside any pre-conceptions for it to resonate, but if you can do that, you will be rewarded with an incredibly artistic statement. An amazing effort by all involved. I don't think many of the mainstream reviewers in the general press "got it".
